How BinDay Fife Handles Information

The detail below explains when information stays on your device, when the service is used, and what can be included if you send feedback.

No Account

You do not need to create an account to use BinDay Fife. The app uses your selected address, collection dates, reminder settings and local waste information.

What Stays on Your Phone

On Android, iPhone and iPad, your saved home, collection dates and reminder settings are stored on your device. Widgets use locally saved collection information; availability and setup depend on your platform and app version.

When the Service Is Used

The app contacts the BinDay Fife service when you search for an address, refresh collection dates, load recycling centre information, check service updates, fetch app settings or send feedback.

Address searches send the postcode you enter. Collection lookups send the property reference needed to retrieve the correct calendar. The backend caches lookup results to keep repeat requests fast and reliable.

Normal logs and health checks are set up to avoid keeping full addresses, full postcodes, UPRNs or raw lookup details.

Feedback and Issue Reports

If you send feedback or report an issue, BinDay Fife may receive the report category, your message, safe app/device context and an optional email address if you choose to add one.

Please avoid including personal information unless it is needed to explain the issue.

No Selling Your Information

BinDay Fife does not sell your information.

Website Privacy

The download link records the source or campaign label, time, broad device and browser categories, requested platform and resolved destination. Referrer information is limited to the domain and, for this website, the page path.

A daily keyed hash derived from the IP address and browser identity estimates repeat visits. Raw IP addresses and full browser strings are not stored in the download analytics records. These figures measure link activity, not app installations or exact users.

There are no advertising trackers or analytics cookies. Hosting providers may keep their own access and security logs.

App Usage Analytics

When app analytics is enabled, supported versions send product events such as app opens and feature use, together with platform and app version. Installation identifiers are hashed by the service for approximate usage reporting. Analytics events do not contain your address, postcode, property reference, precise location or feedback message.

Location, Reminders and Widgets

Location access is optional and is requested when you use nearby recycling features. You can browse without it. Coordinates are used to work out nearby locations and distances; opening directions uses the map service on your device.

Collection reminders use notification permission and locally saved dates. Android and iOS/iPadOS manage notification delivery differently, and device settings may affect delivery. Widgets show collection information without displaying your full address.

Service Providers

Hosting, backend, support and email providers are used only to keep the website, app service and support tools running.

Independent from Fife Council

BinDay Fife is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by Fife Council. Always check official council guidance if you are unsure about collection or recycling information.
